OC spray, or oleoresin capsicum spray, is a type of pepper spray used for self-defense that incapacitates a person by causing temporary blindness, intense burning, and respiratory distress. The active ingredient, oleoresin capsicum, is an oily extract from chili peppers that is a potent irritant. It is used by law enforcement and civilians, though it is not the same as traditional "mace," which can contain different chemical compounds.
